This simple routine will help you bring your Pitta Dosha back into balance this year.
The Pitta season typically aligns with the hot months of the year, which can vary depending on geographical location. In general, Pitta season occurs during the summer season when the weather is hot, humid, and intense. The heat and intensity of Pitta season can mimic the qualities of Pitta dosha, potentially aggravating Pitta imbalances in individuals who are already prone to them.
During Pitta season, people may experience increased internal heat, excessive sweating, skin issues, digestive disturbances, and irritability. It is advisable to adopt practices and make lifestyle choices that help balance Pitta during this time.
As a Yoga Instructor and Ayurvedic Massage Therapist, I understand the struggles of maintaining balance, particularly during the fiery Pitta season. Personally, I am no stranger to the challenges that arise when my Pitta dosha becomes imbalanced, causing me to become overly driven, perfectionistic, and work-obsessed. However, through my experience and knowledge, I have discovered the power of relaxation and the transformative effects it can have on Pitta imbalances.
During Pitta season, it becomes crucial for individuals with a Pitta constitution, or imbalances to find ways to cool down and unwind.
One of the most effective practices for promoting balance is the combination of meditation and yoga which we will take you through step by step in this article. Incorporating these practices into your daily routine can help you reduce the intensity of Pitta and foster a sense of calm and harmony within yourself.
When it comes to meditation, I often hear common concerns such as, "I can't seem to meditate," "I can't stop my thoughts," or "How can I sit still for an hour?" These apprehensions are completely normal. It's important to remember that meditation is a journey, and like any other skill, it takes time and practice to develop.
Start small with just five minutes of meditation, three times a day. Gradually increase the duration as you feel more comfortable and begin to experience the benefits.
"Unsure of how to get into a meditative state? don't worry I got you".
Exercise 1 - Meditation
Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can sit in a relaxed position, either on a cushion or a chair.
Close your eyes gently and bring your attention to your breath, allowing it to flow naturally. Simply observe the sensations of each inhalation and exhalation without judgment or attachment.
As thoughts arise, acknowledge them but let them pass by like clouds in the sky. Return your focus to the breath, grounding yourself in the present moment.
Cultivate a sense of deep stillness and awareness, surrendering to the present experience without striving or seeking.
Embrace this state of profound tranquility and interconnectedness with all beings.
Personally, I have cultivated a one-hour afternoon reset meditation that has become an essential part of my daily routine. It leaves me feeling rejuvenated as if I've had a solid nap.
"Remember, there may be days when you struggle to maintain your practice or find it difficult to focus. It's okay to have setbacks. Simply pick up where you left off as soon as you are ready, tapping into your strong inner Pitta and embodying the resilience that defines you."
In addition to meditation, incorporating Pitta balancing Asanas, or Yoga poses, can further enhance your relaxation practice and promote a sense of calmness and balance during the Pitta season.
The following asanas can be performed individually, woven into a gentle yin flow, or practiced as a sequence, holding each pose for five full breaths.
Remember to hold the pose on your inhale and deepen the stretch slightly as you exhale. Most importantly, allow yourself to relax and enjoy the journey, and remember...
NEVER GIVE UP

Engaging in light exercise can truly work wonders when it comes to destressing. Consider delightful activities like easy swimming, leisurely walks, or the nurturing practice of yoga.
The healing power of nature is well-established, as it effortlessly eases stress and liberates the mind and soul.
Seek out a lovely park or a serene wooded area where you can take gentle strolls, perhaps even accompanied by your beloved furry friends.
Embrace whatever brings you joy in this setting, for it is through consistent practice that you can find solace, calmness, and a renewed sense of tranquility for your precious mind.
Destination Wellness TOP TIPS & TRICKS to keep the FIRE at bay and embrace a balanced lifestyle:
1 - Begin your day with a few moments of meditation, even if it's just for 5 minutes. Feel the gentle embrace of stillness and return to this practice whenever you feel activated or the pressure starts to build. Aim for morning, mid-day, and after work to create moments of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle.
2 - Start your day off right by getting your body moving early on. Take a refreshing walk with your furry friends or a neighbour, right after your morning meditation. Feel the rhythm of each step harmonise with the awakening world around you.
3 - Schedule your yoga practice at a time that suits you best. Whether it's after a walk with your furry friend, after the school run, at the end of your workday, or before bed, there are no strict rules about timing. The key is to cultivate a daily practice that nourishes your body and mind, allowing the energy to flow freely.
4 - Throughout the day, incorporate pitta-balancing foods into your meals. Savour the refreshing goodness of cool and crisp delights such as watermelon, apples, figs, mung beans, coconut, celery, cabbage, and the aromatic touch of cilantro/coriander. Let the flavours and textures bring a sense of harmony to your palate.
5 - Above all, remember to savor and enjoy the essence of summer. Embrace the warmth, the sunshine, and the vibrant energy of the season.
Allow yourself to indulge in moments of leisure, relaxation, and connection with the world around you. Find joy in the simple pleasures that summer offers, and let your spirit soar amidst the beauty of this season.
With these engaging tips and tricks, you can gracefully navigate the journey of maintaining balance and harmony, while fully embracing the essence of summer.
